Barry Smith

Barry lives in Union City where he was raised and where he has raised his three children.  He picked up the clawhammer banjo on a dare in 1997 and met Fred a couple months later the first time he ever held one in public.  By the end of 1998, they were playing together in the old time band Old Dog Trey.  The band evolved into a funk, folk, old time band, and Barry started playing banjo through a wah-wah pedal!  That didn't last too long, but it inspired him to experiment with the banjo and with different styles.  Barry has developed a very percussive and rhythmic sound- simple, but effective.  He also sings and is an aspiring song writer.

By day, he runs a slate roof restoration company.
