Frank Bercik

Born and raised in the once steel town of Southside, located in the inner city of Pittsburgh, Frank Bercik, the son of a steel mill worker grew up with the influences of the city. Frank has been influenced by many genres of music throughout his music career, with a fond love and appreciation of the music and songwriting of Tom Petty, Neil Young and John Mellencamp. He began playing guitar in college at coffee houses and parties with a close friend and playing partner, Kevin Steimer, who was an inspiration for playing music. Upon his friend’s untimely death, Frank began to sing and explore writing his own songs.

Frank never pushed the issue of songwriting until being influenced by Sam Reese, a longtime friend and bassist, who wanted to form a band to play original music. Always being an independent non conformist type in nature by birth, Frank entertained the invite and joined the newly formed “Road Apple Big Band”. The band ended up releasing 2 CD's containing tunes he was able to write and develop with fellow Road Apples in the band. Tunes from the CDs got local radio airplay and good reviews from the media.

Frank now has gone a total turnaround environmentally and lives on a dirt road in the country rather than in a row house with a cement lawn in the inner city of Pittsburgh. He has expanded to other music ventures including joining the Tiger Maple String Band playing mandolin and working on his new toy, the “bouzouki”, an instrument that may bring out his Slovakian roots. His motto, these days is “Life is too short to not play music with your friends”. He gets to do that on a regular basis with the Tiger Maple String Band, Studiodawg and the acoustic duo, Salmon Frank.
